Egg Stand No. 01
Spring Semester 2026 | Two Week Project
This egg cup was developed through a casting project focused on material exploration and craft. Starting from a carved positive, the design evolved into a simple yet sculptural form that rethinks how an everyday object can feel more intentional and elevated.
Renders - Four Versions

Reflection
Coming into this project, I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I had never worked with silicone or casting before. This project also introduced me to new woodshop tools, particularly the lathe. Although it felt intimidating at first, it quickly became one of the most enjoyable parts of the process.
I didn’t start with a fully defined design and instead allowed the form to develop more intuitively. While this approach wasn’t the most structured, it ultimately worked in my favor, and I was very pleased with the final shape.
After creating the positive form, I began exploring different casting methods. I produced three variations of the egg cup using onyx resin, white resin, and concrete. This stage required a high level of attention to detail, as even small mistakes could impact the final result. Because my original form exceeded the size of a standard Solo cup, I also had to create a custom mold to accommodate the dimensions.
Despite balancing this project with others, I never felt rushed and was happy with the overall outcome. Of the three casts, the concrete version is my favorite. It has a worn, rustic quality that aligns closely with my design aesthetic. In the future, I would like to revisit this project and experiment with additional materials to continue pushing my skills further.
